Formal Dressing for Afternoon Tea in Harrogate

The weeks are passing so quickly and my date with mother and the prospect of formal dressing for afternoon tea in Harrogate was upon me before I knew it.

As I have said before, my mother is a stickler for dressing correctly and her favourite Hotel in Harrogate does demand a certain formal dressing code.

The Hotel du Vin is a luxury boutique hotel with an elegant salon for afternoon tea that they call a bistro, but I would say it is a far stretch from the classic bistro setting.  Formal and elegant, the decor is stylish and simple, housing antique furniture and exquisite tableware.  My mother loves it there and when she is in Harrogate, she insists I join her for afternoon tea.

However, back to my shirt.  As you know, I wear many formal shirts in my working and social life; it is a necessity that I do not shy away from, but embrace.  My favourite online retailer of formal shirts is Double Two, who never let me down with both their quality and service.

To pass my mothers exacting formal dressing standards, I teamed the shirt with a blue suit and tie to match, keeping to subtle shades and minimum fuss.

As I ordered my Earl Grey and nibbled on finger sandwiches, I could tell mother was impressed with my formal dressing.  She, herself was the picture of elegance and commands a respect from all who come into contact with her.  The staff at the Bistro adore her and fuss over her in a way that she has come to take as a part of the entire experience of afternoon tea.

We actually spent a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon at the bistro.  The food is excellent, the company glorious and my formal dressing went down well with mother, as she said, ‘Hello, Darling, you do look smart, you never let me down.’
